Minneapolis, Minnesota — Humla Health, formerly known as Call Light Health, is expanding its innovative technology nationwide. The nursing platform digitally credentials nurses and supports scheduling directly with healthcare facilities. The technology’s matching algorithm connects nurses to health systems so they can have direct relationships and schedule for just-in-time placements, short-term needs, and/or long-term assignments.
Today’s health system dilemma - labor pains
Nurses are experiencing burn-out at staggering rates. 62% of nurses feel burnt out, and staffing shortages account for 80% of the burnout. According to Indeed, 96% of nurses believe that flexibility is only going to become more of a priority for nurses now in the post-pandemic workplace.
Health systems today are struggling with a labor-induced economic spiral. According to an article from Becker’s Hospital Review, hospital labor costs increased by more than $42.5 billion to $839 billion between 2021 and 2023, accounting for nearly 60% of the average hospital’s expenses. In 2023 alone, hospitals spent $51.1 billion on contracted staff to help fill in the gaps.
Built by Nurses, for Nurses
Humla was founded by nurses, for nurses. Our nurse leaders have provided patient care, have led multiple nursing teams, and understand first-hand the struggles that nurses and health systems are facing today.
“In my last acute care role, I became burned out watching our nursing peers not have external resources to call for help when we were understaffed and then feeling like agencies and other middle men, not in nursing, were taking advantage of our environment and making major profits, said Jessica Sylvester, Founder and CEO of Humla Health. “Humla Health was founded to reimagine how staffing could be sustainable and delivered in an alternative way that meets both nurses and facilities where they are.”
Reimagining Nurse Staffing
Humla’s technology has digitized or replaced recruiters, staffing agencies, travel nursing, GPOs, regulatory requirements, and manual regulatory checks. Facilities can staff without the bloated costs of an agency and will be able to increase patient safety, budget with more confidence, manage risk and surge plans and fill shifts on-demand.
Once nurses create a personal Humla Health profile, they’ll have flexibility to pick up on-demand per diem shifts to long term assignments, and set their schedule and minimum pay rate while bypassing agencies and recruiters. This direct connection to facilities allows nurses to manage their own schedules, providing greater flexibility and work-life balance.
